Assessment Methods

Assessments are designed to be summative (competency determined immediately after session delivery upon mutual agreement with the learner).

Observation assessments are conducted in a classroom, using a simulated workplace environment (where applicable), as per the training package assessment guidelines.  Assessments are conducted at various points throughout a unit.  Final assessment of the unit will occur when the learner and the trainer agree the learner is ready.

All learners will be required to demonstrate their underpinning knowledge and comprehension of the units that make up the training program. In the case of learners with an identified barrier, the method of assessment will be pre-determined to best accommodate the learner so that they will be able to easily work their way through the training program.  Additional support during the assessment process may be provided, for example in the provision of particular equipment, or changes to the physical environment, or provision of support persons for physical disability, or additional time.  Reasonable adjustments are made to ensure that the learner is not presented with artificial barriers to demonstrating competency in the training program. Reasonable adjustments may also include the use of adaptive technology, educational support, alternative methods of assessment such as oral assessment and role play. Refer to the UIT Reasonable Adjustment and Learner Support Policies and Procedures.

Pre-Training Review (PTR):

  • Selection for enrolment in UIT courses will be approved for applicants who meet the qualification selection criteria during the PTR prior the confirmation of enrolment at UIT.  A satisfactory outcome of PTR with authorised UIT Staff or representative will ensure applicants are placed in a suitable course with an appropriate training and assessment strategy, UIT review applicants existing knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.  Students will be asked to complete this PTR during the enrolment process by providing details of your existing knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications that are relevant to the course being applied for. UIT will then review this information and respond to the student with the outcome of the review whether to proceed and ask for other admission requirements below.
  • Relevant work experience will be acknowledged and taken into consideration for the course to be shortened due to your recognition of prior learning (RPL).

Age Requirements:

  • All students must be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to UIT

Academic Requirements:

  • have completed all core units in BSB52415 Diploma of Marketing and Communication as per the training.gov.au Ref: https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/BSB61315
  • Satisfactory completion of studies in applicant’s home country equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification is required for entry into this course.

English Language/Literacy/Numeracy requirements:

  • IELTS score 5.5 (please visit www.ielts.org for details) or equivalent or have completed at least 6 weeks of Upper- Intermediate EAP/IELTS Exam Preparation course at UIT
  • Provide satisfactory evidence that the learner has the required level of literacy and numeracy skills to complete the qualification.
  • To obtain an indication of students ACSF Level, in addition to the enrolment form, they will be subjected to LLN assessment as a component of the enrolment process. Students are required to successfully test their LLN skills by completing an appropriate level LLN assessment as indicated by the UIT staff during your enrolment process.
  • If learners do not meet English and LLN requirements, learners will be asked to take further Language, literacy and numeracy training e.g.  Foundation skill programs etc.

Computer literacy requirements:

  • All students enrolling into this program must know how to use the basic computer digital literacy skills in each of the following areas prior to graduation: (1) MS Windows, (2) MS Word, and (3) Internet /e-mail skills. This is expected from UIT and if you do not possess the computer literacy requirements, you will be provided with additional support.

A Unique Student Identifier (USI):

  • In addition, students, will need to provide UIT with their Unique Student Identifier number (USI). A USI is a reference number made up of numbers and letters, unique to each student. This USI allows them to link their previous and future VET qualifications into a single authenticated transcript, through the National Vocational Education and Training Data Collection, and prevents them from losing their record. This allows students to see all their training results, from all their previous providers. A USI Number will stay with the student for life, and must be recorded with any nationally recognised VET course they undertake.
